Old House - New House

We are slowly getting a new house from the outside in. We are just waiting now for the contractor to put the siding up. Here is what my house looked like after the old shakes were taken off. By the middle of October, everything should be done.

Summer visitor

Hey everyone this isn't suppose to happen. I have never seen a woodpecker stop for a drink at the hummingbird feeder. This is a first for me. At one point, the woodpecker was sitting on one side of the feeder and the female hummingbird was on the other side. It looked like neither one cared that the other one was there.

Turners Falls, MA

Ed and I traveled to Turners Falls MA on Sunday. It is a quaint little town. While we were there, we went to the Hallmark Museum of Photography. There were three photographers on display. We walked down to the falls and I took a pano of the canal that diverts part of the Connecticut River. We watched the fish going up stream to spawn. They have put in fish ladders to help the shad and salmon go up stream. I made us a picnic lunch and we ate across from the museum. While we were there, a mother and son park their cars and the young man quickly got out of the car with tripod and camera bag in tow. His mother patiently waited for him on a part bench. They were from Missouri and came to Turners Falls because the young man had an interview at the Hallmark Institute of Photography. I told the mother I was jealous because I would love to go to school there too. Maybe when I retire. The young man showed us his portfolio and he is a very good photographer. He has the passion.

We headed down the bike path that runs down along the canal. It was a nice walk and I would like to go back with my bike to do the whole thing. We circled back through town and made the comment to Ed that all the buildings seemed to be made of brick. He said it was probably because lumber was a money crop in that area because of the paper mills and they didn't use wood for houses. As we came long Avenue A, we saw this barber shop and because it was Ed's, I had to take a photo.

We came home by way of route 122 instead of coming back by the highway. It was a real nice day. See my gallery for more photos of the day.

See you soon.

Hot, Hot, Hot

The weather has been excruciating for the past week. It's been above 95 all week. Just a a few days ago it was in the 60's. All I have done is move the sprinkler around to keep all the plants watered. Heres a photo of my rhodie out in front of my house. It was full of bumble bees and butterflies.

I have been appointed to the East Brookfield Cultural Council. I also volunteered to be the chairperson. Sometimes I wonder what gets into me. It should be interesting.

Well that's all for now.
